This series of snapshots is built around the repetition of a typically urban setting, a fault line that lays reality bare, leading us into a virtualization of the world, a generic city.

When confronted with this motif, our perception blurs and an optical illusion borrowed from the kinetic arts instills movement into the static images. The photographed passersby move in another dimension, suspended in space and devoid of context. They entice us to look at them, to follow their strange and elusive paths.

“In Vibration, Julien Lombardi, in the tradition of street photography, observes passersby moving through the street. Yet the aim is not to frame the subjects in a particular context. Here the bodies become geometric areas of flat color which seem to merge with the stratification of the environment through which they are passing. Confined to an abstract setting, these men and women seem imprisoned in a sort of nothingness in which they become shadows of themselves.”
